This course was extremely intriguing and had me hooked from the first discussion forum. It required me to venture out of my comfort zone and ask questions that others viewed as odd, but I knew was going to assist me in my studies. I can recall one specific instance where I was on twenty-four-hour duty and I began asking a police officer doing his security checks questions. It had to be two in the morning and you can tell by the exhausted look on his face when he walked through the bitter cold into our dimly lit building entrance. He spoke with very little energy as he said good morning, but once I began asking him the list of questions that I just so happened to have typed on my laptop screen he immediately perked up and began to speak with life. He rambled on for about 30 minutes telling me about Norfolk in the 80’s and 90’s. He shared scintillating stories as he stared off into space and shaking his head.
I didn’t have to sacrifice much of my family time for school during this course. I ended up having twenty-four-hour duty multiple times during the course and was able to complete a substantial portion of my studies during those time frames. I also was able to complete multiple discussion forums and responses while I waited around at my doctor appointments.

I also have an interest in Federal Emergency Manage Agency (FEMA), which led me down this path as well. I’ve learned so much already that will assist me in understanding why the government does certain things and have specific

This course has been very beneficial to my development as a culturally grounded social worker. There were four components that stood out to me. One thing that stood out to me was the article regarding the experiences of Vietnamese refugees. The article painted a great picture of the treatment of those who are from underrepresented populations. The feelings you described were raw and represent feelings of others who might feel uncomfortable with speaking up for themselves when they are treated properly.…
