How far is too far to end prejudice, help save people’s lives, and better the social interaction in total. Harper Lee’s book Go Set A Watchman, the sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird, Jean Louise Finch is all grown up and working in New York. Her past has shaped her to be the non racist, strong willed woman she is today. Her father is ailing as he grows older, and her brother Jem dropped dead of a heart attack at age 28. Everything thing was going pretty decent until Jean Louise returns home and everything she thought she knew went up in flames. The really question though is what happened in the past that influenced the people to do what they did?

Tom was accused of raping Mr. Ewell’s daughter Mayella. The event causes Tom to go to jail and need to be put on trial. Atticus volunteers to defend him, and do everything in his power to prove that Tom is innocent, even though the jury is already bias. Atticus sits outside of the jail to protect Tom from being killed. On one particular night Scout, Jem, and Dill go to the jail, and see a mob surrounding Atticus with low hats on so you can barely see their faces. Scout recognizes one of the men as Mr. Cunningham, she tells him to say “hey” to his son Walter for her. After that the men realize what they’re doing, and that they’re doing in front of children. Some of them mumble “sorry”, and they all drive off. Then Atticus tells them to all go home, they all obey, and leave Atticus alone. When Scout gets home she realizes that she might’ve just saved Atticus’s life, and cries. A few days pass and the day of the trial arrives. People from all over the county and others come to the Maycomb courthouse to watch the trial. The judge is Judge Taylor and he knows Atticus very well. As the trial plays out it become very clear the Tom Robinson isn’t guilty and it’s actually Mayella’s “crime” because she tempted a black man. She felt so guilty about that she claimed that he raped her. The Jury goes to decide and take a really long time to, making everyone nervous. Bob Ewell was still sore the trial and had a grudge against Atticus. Months later right before halloween Scout and Jem are walking home from a school pageant that Scout was in. Suddenly they’re attacked but Scout can’t see who it is because she’s still in her costume. She and Jem are struggling and screaming, when a stranger pulls them away from the attacker. Scout looks for Jem but she can’t find him and runs home, she see’s a man carrying Jem home. The doctor and sheriff come and it’s concluded that Bob Ewell the attacker is dead, Jem has a concussion and a broken arm, Scout is bruised, and the man who killed Mr. Ewell is Boo Radley. Boo protected Scout and Jem against Bob Ewell. The kindest of strangers amazes
