“Go Gently” is an article written by Tim Falconer. The author argues that human should have the option of how, where and when to die. Tim states, we should honour the request of the terminally ill person. He holds that belief because if a person repeatedly ask to die, we should respect the individual’s circumstances. We should never make decisions for others since we’ve never experienced the way they’ve experienced life.
The author’s purpose is to persuade people that the ill person or family should have the right to make decisions for their love ones to die on their own phase. To make his argument, he makes a difference between dying from Euthanasia and Assisted-Suicide. It is very difficult to imagine that a person slowly fading away with someone who is deeply important to them. Also, it is important we stay strong for the illness because in the worst case scenario, miracle could happen at any moment, time could never tell. We should never devalue a person ability to live. For example, it is gift to survive cancer and live like a normal human being again. Similarly, Falconer’s idea “where there’s life, there’s hope” (Paragraph 4, 2nd sentence) could create positive mental image where many individual could give them some sort of uplift strength for their love one instead of thinking about the negative situation. In “Go Gently,” Tim Falconer convinces us that as human we should have the ability to make family life threatening decisions.
