Human health is negatively impacted by consuming foods containing GMO’s causing allergies, antibiotic resistance, and direct genetic impact. GMO stands for genetically modified organism. They are made by taking a gene from one organism and put into a new organism to get a desired trait. They create combinations of viruses, bacteria, animal, and plant genes that do not happen naturally. In the .U.S. the government has approved sales of GMOs, but 60 other countries have completely banned or put restrictions on genetically modified organisms. Not a lot is actually known about GMO’s. Plants are a great example because we as humans know they have about ten million genes, but out of those ten million we have only identified about fifty to one hundred of them.
