I would like to bring your attention to these pictures for a moment. By a show of hands, does anyone see a difference in these foods? The picture to the top has organic foods. The foods shown in the picture on the bottom have been genetically modified with genes from other organisms, such as bacteria. Organic and GMO foods look exactly the same. These kinds of GMO foods should be banned. GMO foods provide human health risks that could ruin a person’s life. GMO food crops provide danger to the environment along with other crops. To make lives safer in the U.S., GMO foods must be banned.

Many of the GMO crop farmers use pesticides to fight off insects. According to the Council of Biotechnology, “GMO crops and their companion pesticides and herbicides wreak havoc on the environment including polluting air, water and soil.”(www.adaptforsurvival.com) Farmers use pest-resistance chemicals to fight off pests that attack the GMO crops. Allison Snow, a plant ecologist at Ohio State University, stated, “Genes flow from crops to weeds all the time when pollen is transported by wind, bees, and other pollinators.” (National Geographic). The pesticides used on GMO crops spread by the wind, moving from crop to weeds. As the plants are insect resistance, they weeds will also become insect resistance. Not just the environment is deteriorating, but the animals are also being harmed by GMO crops. Organic Authority research shows that, “Monarch butterflies have also died after their favorite food, milkweed, was cross-pollinated from Bt corn which rendered it toxic to the endangered species.” (organicauthority.org) Endangered animals such as the monarch butterflies are dying by GMO crops. GMO crops have to be banned for the good for the environment and harmless
