Gmo Labeling

Mandatory labeling of GMO foods has been a controversy around the world for the past many years. Everyone has their own opinions when it comes to the subject and the pros and cons each side presents. All foods should be labeled as to whether they contain GMO ingredients or not because it allows consumers to make informed decisions when it comes to fueling their bodies in regards to their health and personal desires. In an article titled “GMO foods: What you need to know” from Consumer Reports Magazine, a few health aspects of GMO foods are discussed. The article states that: “Animal studies – commonly used to help assess human health risks – have suggested that GMOs might cause damage to the immune system, liver, and kidneys” (2). Although this isn’t a proven fact, it doesn’t mean that GMO foods are considered safe. Researchers have been trying to determine the long-term effects GMO foods have on people’s health, but the absence of GMO labeling on food products make that very difficult because the ingredients contained in the food being eaten is uncertain. This emphasizes the fact that it is very important for people to know what’s in their food. Many people around the world have food allergies, including myself, so it is crucial to our health that we know what all we’re putting in our bodies. Personally, I believe that purposely choosing to not label food products containing GMO ingredients is very deceptive and suggests that the companies producing the food have something to hide. But either way, consumers should be given all the information about a certain food so that they can make an informed decision about the food they eat given the possible risks that may or may not come with
