1. What skills have you learned or practiced as a result of working on this paper? Be as specific and comprehensive as possible.

I have learned to write bibliographies in APA format, a skill that I will use throughout college and beyond. Working on this paper has made me a better reader and note taker. Reading scholarly articles about GMO foods during my research introduced me to unfamiliar words and concepts that I worked to understand through dictionaries, context clues, and simply asking questions. When I first began researching at the start of this paper, I realized that my note taking methods were messy and ineffective. I knew that at that point my note taking would not help me earn an “A”. After learning about identifying important information in articles I was able to plan and organize my note taking and make my paper flow.

Which parts of your research were most rewarding? Which parts were most surprising?
The most surprising part of my research was learning that many people don’t even know what GMO foods are. Just about every american eats GMO food, and whether they know it or not, it affects them. The most rewarding part of my research was that I was able to share my findings with others and potentially make a change on how others view food.
4. Try to explain how your understanding of your topic has changed as a result of your research. What do you know now that you didn't know when you started this course?
My topic continues to get more specific as I conduct research because I find certain issues incredibly interesting and important. For example, my paper originally was supposed to be about the overall effect of eating GMO foods. However, as I began to research, I decided that I wanted to focus my paper towards effects on health. When I started this course, I didn’t have a firm stance on either side of the GMO debate. After writing my paper I can surely say that I am cautious of GMO foods and am in support of educating

    Are Gmo Good Or Bad

To be against genetically modified organisms, is being against the advancement of technology. Over the course of all history many ideas have been shut down before they’ve even seen the light of day, and unfortunately that could be the case for gmo’s. 88% of U.S. scientists say genetically modified foods are safe to eat, and only 37% of Americans agree. Rationally, GMO crops aren't inherently different from other breeding techniques that people already trust—so even though we can't know with 100% certainty that the plants won't have negative effects, there's also no reason to think that they will (Peters). People tend to give them a bad rap simply because they don’t further research them.…

Discussion 2 1. What do you think was the focus of Larry Beason's study? Larry’s focus was to put a spotlight on the direct and indirect effects that errors have in writing and how teachers, business people and students react to errors, what errors are the most offensive and what perceptions are created because of the errors in textual communication. He discussed that teachers need to educate and warn the next generation of students about the potential of being judged or misjudged by errors in writing and at the same time, also teach them to not be so judgmental themselves.…

In recent years, the outcry of people against genetically modified food, or GM food, has become increasingly prominent in both commercial and governmental practices. GM foods have a negative connotation; people think that eating something that has been modified is going to poison their body. Not only that, but most of the American public believes that in doing this, humans are playing god, and have gone too far. However, none of this is true. So far, none of the GM food currently on the market has any ill-effects on humans.…

This idea became my main idea on proving that genetic engineering has been around for centuries and humans have always used it. I researched what crops the Native Americans engineered and incorporated that into my paper and also took note of how crops today, have no resemblance whatsoever to their ancestors. Later on, I arrived on an article written by PBS that mentioned how hybridization, a form of plant breeding and genetic engineering were the same thing. So, I started researching this and managed to find a lot of websites that stated the same thing and this soon became another major basis for my paper because hybridization is a very old practice that dates back to prehistoric times and if I could connect genetic engineering to this, then my paper would be complete. By the end of my research, I felt like an expert on the topic of GMOs and knew that I was ready to incorporate my research on to the group…

For years, parents have reprimanded their children with the witty comment “You are what you eat.”, and this phrase has been pulled into numerous lawsuits and controversial fights regarding genetically modified foods. In this day in age, how would people respond if someone told them that if they consumed too many genetically modified foods, they would become a genetically modified food? Genetically modified foods have earned themselves the abbreviation of GM foods, and were introduced into the world’s global food supply by 1990, with the Food and Drug Administration giving Pfizer Inc. the green light to put the first GM food ingredient to ever be developed on the shelves (ProQuest Staff).…
