The key scientific issues being discussed right now about GMOs (genetically modified organisms) are that are these transgenic crops safe and is it ethical? Transgenic crops are crops that have a gene in them that has been genetically modified not through pollination but through someone artificially inserting the gene in the seed. Ethics play a big role in genetic engineering so GMOs have a lot of ethics go in them before anything is actually done to the crop itself. That being said not all GMOs are the same. A GMO is an organism the someone has changed the genome inside of that organism it is up to the engineer to pick what genetically modified gene they want to use. Some information you can trust can be found by looking at different types of papers and coming up with your own opinion about GMOs. You can always look at journal articles and if they use science and it makes since to you then you can probably trust that source. The main ethical issues at play for GMOs are the long term effect and environmental influences that GMOs have. Since GMOs are new it is hard to say what’s going to happen in 50-100 years because they just haven’t been around that long. Environmental effects are a big part of the ethics in GMOs because what if a weed become resistant to all kinds of weed killers then the weeds will kill all the crops and there will be no more food. Or what could happen is that the GMO could take all of the natural organisms and turn them in to GMOs so if something were to happen and that strand dies off there might not be enough of the non-GMO to reproduce and make more natural plants. I think there needs to be a change in the perception of GMOs in the public mostly get everyone educated to know what a GMO is and how it can affect the
