A GMO is the result of a laboratory process where genes from the DNA of one species are extracted and artificially forced into the genes of an unrelated plant or animal. GMOs are very beneficial to the world because of its resistance to insects, environmental protection, and more nutritious foods. Bt cotton is the only GM crop authorised to be grown in India and China. Bt crops are supposed to be grown with refuges of non-GM crops and plants to reduce the likelihood of the targeted pests developing resistance. This corresponds to about a quarter of all the pesticides sprayed in China in the mid-1990s. Additionally, the use of Bt cotton can substantially reduce the risk and incidence of pesticide poisonings to farmers. GMO’s stands for “genetically modified organisms,” these are strands of DNA that have been modified to help benefit the plant in some form such as making the plant immune to certain diseases or to help the plant grow larger. Arguments in favor of genetically modified organisms include reasons such as the ability to use fewer pesticides because the crop has been modified to be resistant to certain insects. Another argument in favor of GMOs is that the crop is able to grow in more harsh conditions allowing a larger amount of land to be used and benefiting areas that do not have the best conditions to grow food. Increased yields is a benefit seen from introducing genetically modified crops, this is seen as beneficial because with an increased…

Many people think that GMOs are bad and that they mess with Mother Nature, and it’s technically playing god. But there are reasons for genetically modifying organisms because it can help for the betterment of mankind or it could just be for further learning the science of GMOs. In my opinion I think that GMOs are bad for the economy because of the many bad possibilities that could come from it. Such as:genetically modified corn and soy which are fed to rats, and that could lead to kidney liver. Even though GMOs are thoroughly tested there are many health risks that can cause humanity to be in a world epidemic.…

Rachel Binder English 9, 3 Hardy December 2016 The Benefits of Genetically Modified Organisms in Agriculture For centuries, farmers used generation's worth of knowledge to breed seeds for their most desireable traits. Today, 90 percent of all corn, soybean, canola and sugar crops are altered either in the laboratory in ways that cannot be achieved with traditional farming techniques or inserted with genetic material, to exhibit traits that withstand drought and soil erosion . Many argue that GMO usage harms the environment and human health, while others believe that GMO usage provides pest and drought resistance for crops, and allows for third world countries to have sustainable farming techniques with greater nutrition that traditional farming…

Another positive claim that comes from these genetically modified crops is that they can sustain pesticides better than non gmo crops, and therefore less pesticide has to be used; but these crops have actually caused more pesticides to be used in crops after they began to be modified, and that is because insects are always adapting to the new substances and plants that are…
