Carolyn Mcall has been the Chief Executive Officer of the airline company EasyJet since July 1, 2010. Mother of three, Carolyn Mcall is one of the few women having attained an executive position in a big company. Throughout this paper, we will discuss what traits made Mcall an effective leader, how she has influenced her followers to accomplish a common goal, and finally how the context has played a role on her leadership style.
Through the theory we will manage to find the relevant leadership traits and behaviour of Carolyn McCall, we will focus the traits and behaviour that helped her to become an effective and successful leader.
Personality
One of main leadership traits of the CEO is her extraversion and its agreeableness indeed people describe her like “a force of nature, full of energy, full of fun.” As we saw in theory this trait is a core competence in the development of a leader.
However, she is not only this, one strong capacity of the woman is that she is able to communicate a vision, to be inspiring, indeed even after passing, companies keep a track of her, indeed Natalie Waterworth says about her “I have worked previously in an organisation that Carolyn used to manage, New Look Retailers, and even long after her departure the effects of her leadership are still apparent.”

With few strategic changes she tried to implement short-term objectives. She constantly adopts a practical way of doing things at Easy Jet. For instance, to solve communication problems between employees, she implemented open spaces in the offices. By being closer to each other, people share more ideas more rapidly because they are more engaged. Additionally, she is able to get to the desired result by looking at the big picture. By focusing on realistic objectives, she is conscientious of the limits of strategic change. Her idea was not to change everything at Easy Jet, but to improve the efficiency of some
