Glut Integrity Analysis

The vice that I decided to examine was gluttony. I chose this vice considering I enjoy eating food a lot. Sometimes when it comes to sweets I have very low self-control. In this class we talked about Gluttony and how it is a disordered desire for food and drink. Luckily for me I don’t really desire a lot of drinks. I mostly stick to water but sometimes I do go overboard on coffee. In order to really see how gluttony affects me I actually reflected on this vice for 2 weeks. The first week I ate anything that I wanted but wrote it down, the second week I tried to curb my appetite and ate only things that I needed. Over those two weeks I realized that I was putting a lot of things into my body that I really did not need. The second thing I realized was by eating unnecessary foods I was actually making myself even more hungry and craving unhealthy things. I would crave these unhealthy foods so much that when I did eat them I would only focus on the foods and not my surroundings. …show more content…
Food contains nutrients that allow humans to function in their daily lives. The one thing that I found during my two-week reflection was how much junk food I was actually eating. Eating sweets in moderation can be a pleasure that is not disordered, but if you eat sweets three times a day everyday, then that is a disordered desire. I found that I would eat some sort of sweet three times a day for the entire week. Considering the school cafeteria has a lot of different desserts set out everyday it was very easy to just grab one and head to class. When I looked back at my journal I realized how many sweets I was eating and how it just became a habit to just take them. In a way my desires were disordered considering I was eating too much. I counted the calories and noticed I was eating way more calories than what I was burning. I was eating to excess and it really affected me in ways I did not notice until the next week when I controlled what I ate even

Barbara Brody, writer for WebMD, stated in an article reviewed by Joseph Goldberg, MD, that food providing our bodies with fuel is not the only reason for eating. Emotions can have a strong impact. Brody said you might eat due to being, “happy (birthday cake!), sad (who hasn't indulged in ice cream after a bad day?), or stressed (that 3 p.m. office chocolate break).” Of course, a once in a while treat in a healthy diet is no problem.…

Analysis After observing the food addicts anonymous group, it is important to note, the formula for success comes from the interaction of each member; the belief of a higher power; and the will power to abstain from certain foods. More importantly, individuals’ ability to face problems head on and not avoiding the situation. Case studies have shown “addicts’ cravings are independent of willpower or moral development and consumes the total being of the addict, regardless of the person character” (Margolis, 1993). Therefore, each member of the observed group, desire to eat was not only a way to cope with problems and life style situations, but it is an innate craving that comes from a chemical imbalance in the brain.…

It is clear that human beings are easily enticed to do things that we do not need to do. In Book 12 of The Odyssey, Odysseus is trying to get back to Ithaca when he is warned about an upcoming danger in their travels, the Sirens. Odysseus was instructed by Circe to give his crew earplugs out of wax and to have himself tightly tied to the mast. At the time when Odysseus and his crew encounter the Sirens, we are shown how becoming consumed by greed and losing self control in immersing oneself in a temptation is easy and often somebody needs to remind us of reality and tell us to stop. Therefore, moderation is key to being a virtuous human being.…

When we first were signing up to choose our topics, I chose baking because I like to simply bake. I thought that there could be some chemistry involved due to heat in the oven changing food from liquid to solid. I was so wrong. Even though the oven and heat portion plays a major factor, a good portion of the real chemistry lies in the ingredients we use to make such delicious dessert treats and our different breads. From the ten different sources I looked up previously, for the Annotated Bibliography portion, I found that each of the websites say roughly the same thing.…

At first I followed what my dietitian told me to eat, but as the semester went along, I got off track. Due to stress and anxiety about homework, I would snack too much especially when studying. My eating habit I followed in the middle of the semester was definitely not healthy at all. One day I would eat less and healthy; and the next day I would eat a lot and unhealthy. It was so hard to keep eating the same amount of food with the same amount of healthy nutrients because of my ever changing schedule.…
