Glow Sticks Essay

Glow sticks have many uses to them and many people use them in a number of situations as well. One important aspect of glow sticks is that they are water proof, so if you ever go scuba diving or just want something to light up in your pool then glow sticks are perfect for that. Another feature of them is that they do not require any batteries at all so they are very simple to use, and one final thing that is interesting about glow sticks is they generate an insignificant, or small, amount of heat, sometimes no heat at all. However the most important aspect is that they are used to help people as well, occasionally they are used after a catastrophic event, such as in earthquake, flood, or a hurricane.
Glow sticks are powered by the process Chemiluminescence, which means that it is an emission of light that is not caused by heating. Chemiluminescence reactions emit occasionally a small amount of heat sometimes not even any heat, because the energy is unleashed as a light instead of heat. Many people use glow sticks for many differnet reasons such as emergency workers after an earthquake or natural disaster and they are even used for scuba diving at night , men and women in the military, and even Halloween trick-or-treaters.

Chanukkah, the Jewish festival of rededication, also known as the festival of lights, is an eight-day festival beginning on the 25th day of the Jewish month of Kislev, is probably one of the best known Jewish holidays, not because of any great religious significance, but because of its proximity to Christmas. Many non-Jews and even many assimilated Jews, think of this holiday as the Jewish Christmas, adopting many of the Christmas customs, such as elaborate gift-giving and decoration. It is ironic that this holiday, which has its roots in a revolution against assimilation and the suppression of Jewish religion, has become the most assimilated, secular holiday on their calendar. Therefore, the story of Chanukkah begins in the reign of Alexander…

Flashbulb memories have been compared to operating like video cameras, which may seem like an accurate comparison to people who have experienced these types of memories. The only problem with this comparison is that flashbulb memories, like any other memory, are prone to change over time. The theory of Roger Brown and James Kulik that argued that flashbulb memories do not decay over time has since been disproven with more modern studies. Since flashbulb memories are not immune to decay, it is very possible and maybe even likely, that Jim would create a false memory regarding what he was doing when his parents won the lottery when he was a child. Assuming that Jim is an adult now, this even occured many years ago, making it even more likely…

Their use is to alert other drivers and pedestrians to the approach or stationary position of an emergency vehicle and to request the right of way. This is hopefully done without overwhelming or otherwise incapacitating them. There is less data regarding the use of lights than of sirens. Type, color, and location of lights on EMS vehicles are often subject to local or state ordinances, and the relative effectiveness of light type, color, output, and flashing sequence has not been clearly determined (Delorenzo 1992). The US Fire Administration, in a recent report, even suggested that optimal emergency lighting might be different for EMS vehicles requesting the right-of-way compared to those in a stationary…

Growing up in the Valleys of Reno Nevada the weather can be unexpected and terrible from the summer rainstorms to the whiteout winter in five feet of snow. There are a lot of power outages that I have encountered, knowing how to start a fire and get some kind of heat and light was imperative to my family. My mom was always prepared. On the counter top in the corner of our bathroom always sat a dusty odd looking glass kerosene lamp that was always topped off with smelly kerosene.…

Originally, the Menorah was a seven-branched candelabra beaten out of a solid piece of gold that served as one of the sacred vessels in the Holy Temple. It stood in the southern part of the Temple and was lit every day by the High Priest. Only pure, fresh olive oil of the highest quality was suitable to light the Menorah.…

“Colorblindness creates a society that denies their negative racial experiences, rejects their cultural heritage, and invalidates their unique perspectives.” Multiculturalism on the other hand gives equal consideration to all different backgrounds. Consequently people who have been discriminated against in their lives will find a multitude of issues with colorblindness as opposed to multiculturalism. Colorblindness tells a person of color to forget about one of the significant aspects of who you are as a person. This is an unfair requirement to place on an individual from a person of non-color.…
