In the past few months this film has received vary poor reviews when discussed in the classroom, commonly ridiculed as a waste of three hours or a waste of a weekend. The classroom opinions caused me to begin the film with a negative attitude, as if I already disliked the film before the first scene was through. The begging of the film was of a bloody, hand to hand brawl to the death between black Union and white Confederate soldiers, this didn’t suite well with me for I feared another romanticized, mind numbing action, Glory reboot. Shortly after the first scene I became entangled in the films story and characters in a way few films can replicate.
