Robert Shaw realized that white Americans acknowledged African-Americans as the slave race and unequipped to fight with pride and nobility in the military. He battled eagerly against a corrupt administration and a hesitant military foundation to prove that his African American regiment would show courage and fearlessness in battle. There is so much truth behind this movie, it shows the war in which there were some many American setbacks than in any of the others wars we have battled in including Vietnam. In the movie there is a scene when it is time to pay the soldiers, the black troops notice that were receiving a wage of $10 and the white soldiers on the other hand were receiving a wage of $13 . The men realize that they were paid less because of their skin color, and began to tear up their pay cards and state if there weren’t paid the same as the white man they would quit the regiment and return home. They felt it was unfair for them to be paid less money for the same work, they argued that the blacks “march as far, bleed as much, and die as soon”, to be paid this little wage. I feel that this situation has something to do with minimum wage in this day and time. Some fast food workers feel that they should be paid more for the work that they do. And some even go to the extent to protest just like the 54th regiment
