Their standards weren’t for the colored and they didn’t want them to be labeled as a hero to the white Americans. This caused many tensions between the white and the black regiment group, allowing them to always fight in every scene. They didn’t put their differences aside even though they were fighting for the same team. Later on, people came around to show that they accepted them into the war as equal men. They showed improvement in each other’s relationship as a whole and we're able to fight for freedom against the other team. In the movie when they first recruited the African American troop many of the white troops didn’t like it. Especially the people who were in charge of all the supplies to offer the troops. They believed that only white should have the necessary tools to fight and not themselves. The African American soldiers worked day and night to be put into training in order to fight. Unfortunately, they were never supplied with the proper gear. They wouldn’t have the proper clothes or shoes in other to be efficient. Shaw saw that they had character, and we're able to be the first regiment to lead at Fort Wagner. He said that the first group to go in needed to be very skilled and ready to go. Colonel Shaw saw that his team was ready and talked to the officer about it and he said okay and to not let them down. One of the higher officers said that they needed a group that would kill some of the opposing sides before the rest of the group could come in. So some of the other crew members could just help kill the rest later. A few minutes later, John Rawlins hosted a meeting causing everyone to speak their thoughts out. In the religious meeting the night before Fort Wagner, they sang around the campfire and thanked the Lord for the opportunity that they were given. They finally knew that it was their time to die for their country and not die in vain. They asked for protection and are blithesome that they are able to show that they are as good as the white man. They are so and proud of the opportunity that was given to them for being able to fight the enemy. The commander saw that Shaw had a lot of trust in them so he allowed them to fight. Many of the other officials followed in Shaw’s footsteps. This helped change how everyone else in the camp saw them. The other white officers finally showed some respect towards them. They
