Glory Movie Analysis

This movie “glory” tells us the story of the 54th regiment of Massachusetts. This is a big moment in American history because it was one of the first times that colored men where allowed to be soldiers. This movie also shows us how colored soldiers were treated during the civil war. This movie gives us many examples of how different the colored soldiers were treated from the white soldiers. It shows us that even though there was no slavery in the north and colored people were free, there was still a lot of discrimination towards colored people. Toward the end of the movie it shows us how General Shaw started to fight for the equality of the soldiers. As the movie progressed, the colored soldiers were then respected and treated equally. Many of them were desperate for shoes. One of these desperate men was a soldier named Trip. He was so desperate for them that he went out at night in search for some. The next day it was revealed that he had been caught trying to find some shoes. Trip was going to be punished for this, but the way that he was going to be punished seemed to be very offensive toward the other soldiers. It was decided that his punishment was going to be a whipping. Even one of the officers did not agree about this but, there was nothing he could do. This scene was very impactful because when trip’s back was revealed, everyone could see that he had many scars from previous whippings. This reveals to us that trip was an escaped slave. At one point in the movie, Colonel Shaw receives a message. This message stated that if the confederates captured any white soldiers that they will be executed and if any colored soldiers were captured they would all be sent to be sold as slaves. Colonel Shaw announced this to all his soldiers one night and said, “ if anyone is not here in the morning I understand.” The next morning, Colonel Shaw woke up to every single soldier up and ready to
