As a retired veteran of war Clint Eastwood has to face many challenges in his life that most people his age should never have to face. In his life, he is having to overcome many struggles such as dealing with such negativity, living in the past, attachment and the many things it throws at him. With all being said the most important thing to gain from growing older is that no one person should be unhappy in the ending years of their life. In the beginning, Clint shows a bit of negativity to all most everyone that he interacts with including much of his family. But as people see things in life it is common for the elderly to show more of a positivity effect towards things. So instead of seeing things negatively, they would be more likely to show more interest in the positive things around them for reasons that they no longer have to deal with the crazy things in the world today. That is not Clint's case, though; he has to deal with the fact that his family only sees him for the things he has and his neighborhood that is now becoming racially mixed. …show more content…

In the past few months this film has received vary poor reviews when discussed in the classroom, commonly ridiculed as a waste of three hours or a waste of a weekend. The classroom opinions caused me to begin the film with a negative attitude, as if I already disliked the film before the first scene was through. The begging of the film was of a bloody, hand to hand brawl to the death between black Union and white Confederate soldiers, this didn’t suite well with me for I feared another romanticized, mind numbing action, Glory reboot. Shortly after the first scene I became entangled in the films story and characters in a way few films can replicate. Daniel Day Lewis gave a stellar performance as Lincoln that was undoubtedly Oscar worthy, Tommy…

Killing Innocent with Fear “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.” (Mark Twain) Humans live in fear every day, fear in the littlest things from spiders and ants, to big things like cliffs, but in the book To Kill a Mockingbird the people in Maycomb fear difference. They don’t want people to look different, sound different or even think different from them, because they are afraid of what will happen, if they accept it. Maycomb should not be afraid of anything but fear itself although Scout Finch and the other kids are afraid of the Radley house because they are ignorant of who Boo Radley really is.…

Comparison Paper #1 I will be comparing “All Quiet On the Western Front” and “Saving Private Ryan”. These war stories show us how war makes us view others and ourselves. Sure it may be easy to view someone else as nothing more than an object, but to view ourselves as nonhumans is hard and takes a lot of demoralizing and dehumanizing. Dehumanization is the mental ability to view someone as less than a human, to not view them as worthy of human treatment or rights. This is an ability that we use to make it easier to find aggression against enemies and kill them.…

‘Gran Torino’, starred in and directed by Clint Eastwood, creates a euphoric quality to the ‘good old’ American traditional values through the fictitious events surrounding Walt Kowalski, a Korean War veteran who has recently lost his wife. Kowalski is ‘pissed off’ at the world. His anger is compounded by the fact that he is separate with his disrespectful family, his neighbourhood is overrun by the Hmong and that simply the world is changing, and by his opinion, for the worse. Clint Eastwood’s expert acting talent was paramount to smooth out all the rugged edges that the Asian actors displayed in their characters. The Asian actors looked to have at most a day’s acting experience between them.…

The motive of many movies and poems is to entertain and educate. Over the years of endless English classes, we learn that entertainment is not always funny and education is not always facts and dates. By watching movies, the watcher gets to have a better understanding of how a situation actually went, rather than reading bullet points of facts on a PowerPoint slide. Poems give the reader visuals by having comparisons and detailed adjectives. A main event that is frequently brought up and taught in History classes is World War I.…

The movie Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott, tells the story of general Maximus (played by Russell Crowe) that stands against crazy Emperor (played by Joaquiem Phoenix) is considered to be one of the best historical movies in modern history. However, as it goes in historic movies, Gladiator is showing the audience the popular recitation period and masks the real perception and the real course of government. It is true that most of the changes made in the movie could only strengthen the atmosphere of the film. The inaccuracies starts from the main characters – the biggest mistake is the fact that the character played by Russell Crowe, general and gladiator, Maximus Decimius Meridius never existed.…
