“ I Have a Dream” and “Glory and Hope” were two different speeches given by Dr. martin Luther king J.R and Nelson Mandela individually and on different occasions. This speech was given at those time when there were so many people who used to practice racism, communalism and many other things. These problems at first seemed to be inextricably difficult. But these great speeches forced everyone to think again, and to question again to him or herself, whether they were being treated equally, whether they were happy and want this to continue? Both these speeches created hope in people to fight against inequality or whatever the difficulty was. These speeches were both equally strong, and so is the reason for these speeches to create

The speech was made at the Lincoln memorial demands equality and justice for the Afro – American in the USA. On the other hand if u look at Mr. Mandela’s speech, which according to me is one of the best inaugural speech given by anyone in the world. The speech was not that strong though. I think because Dr. king, when he was delivering his speech, at that time the discrimination and other such problems hadn’t ended and therefore he was showing strength in speech to fight that problem, and when “Glory and Hope” was being delivered at that time the problem and difficulties which were being faced had already ended. Though the speech has good repetitions ‘let there be’ this line demonstrates his desire to progress Africa. In his speech they’re many good phrases of which some are ‘Intimately attached to the soil of this beautiful country’ and like ‘each time one of us touch the soil of this land, we feel a sense of personal renewal’. This demonstrates a loyal feeling towards the country. Mr. Mandela’s speech was given in the year 1994, after apartheid had ended in South Africa. This was also the occasion of president mandala’s inaugural speech, where world leaders were present. This speech was watched by millions of people

This way, Mandela allows his audience to feel grateful for these sacrifices that ultimately led to the democratic nation. Second, Mandela uses metaphor to put to light the security forces which aided in protecting the first elections and the whole nation’s transition to democracy. Mandela recognizes the “security forces…for the distinguished role they have played in” securing the first democratic election “from blood-thirsty forces which still refuse to see the light.” This metaphor compares the apartheid as a blood thirsty force and light as democracy or peace. Doing this, Mandela makes the audience see apartheid as dark evil forces and the security forces as the essential protectors from this force. Mandela wrote “an autobiography” given the title, “Long Walk to Freedom” which was very fitting for his journey to ending racism. He “founded the law firm” called “Mandela and Tambo” (“Nelson Mandela”, Biography). This “law firm provided” the black South Africans with a “free and low-cost legal counsel”. This means that the law firm gave them more freedom of speech against the unjust and racist laws of the white-superior government. Mandela also “urged” for a “constitutional reform” and stated that the “struggle” for rights would pursue unless the the “black majority” got a “right to vote” (“Nelson Mandela”, Biography).…

Washington depends on focusing on the economic aspect that African Americans have contributed to the nation by using allusion and pathos. The spokesperson states, “ ...yet far above and beyond material benefits will be that higher good, that, let us pray God, will come, in a blotting out of sectional differences and racial animosities and suspicions, in a determination to administer absolute justice, in a willing obedience among all classes to the mandates of law.” He decided to include this to aim the audience to be positive about his proposal and to help everyone be convinced to his argument. It made the African Americans feel that with faith someday this injustice will end and everyone will be viewed as a whole. He utilizes ethos whenever he says, “The wisest among my race understand that the agitation of questions of social equality is the extremest folly, and that progress in the enjoyment of all the privileges that will come to us must be the result of severe and constant struggle rather than of artificial forcing.” This emphasizes on how the black community have struggled for so many years and its time to help make a change to them. It might be a long process, but if everyone works along with one another it can happen.…

When people stand up for what they believe in, in a provocative way we call it radical. Thomas Jefferson and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were two very important people who stood up for what they believed in and they did so in powerful ways. They both addressed their problems in similar ways by writing letters in order to get their points across however, they wrote them differently.
