“A gender-equal society would be one where the word 'gender' does not exist: where everyone can be themselves.” Gloria Steinem is an active feminist that shares her thoughts on a daily blog, trying to empower the youth. Gender equality has created segregation in the workplace due to positions being delegated unfairly, wages being formed without work ethic involved, and stereotypes within the home. There is an unofficially barrier, called the ‘Glass-Ceiling’, that females have to break through in order to advance in the workplace. In many jobs, where the male is the dominate performer, females will get out shined and be forced to try extra hard even if their contribution will be of a greater importance. “The numbers don’t lie, and they’re …show more content…
Jacob Galley, a Monthly Labor Review author said, “Gender equality in the workplace could add $4.3 trillion (£3 trillion) to the US economy by 2025…” (source B). In eight years, if the gender roles are equal, there would be nothing but benefits. If more females can work, it leads to more families thriving, and more money will go back into American businesses. According to Business Insider, “women across the globe earn anywhere from 5.6 to 36.6 percent less than men, depending on the country. On average, for every $100 (USD) a man earns a woman will only earn $76” (source G). This degrades the female race letting them know that they are seventy-six percent as adequate as males. Both genders work hard for their money, and females should not have to do extra work to make up for the other 25%. Subconsciously, caps are place on the income levels for each gender, and those roles used to be filled by all men but now change has to occur; the system is flawed. This “…can hurt morale and cooperation between your employees, but it could also set your organization up for a possible lawsuit for gender or racial discrimination” (Source G).
