Immigration is defined as the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country, and an immigrant is the person doing this action. Not to mention that in the United States, about forty-five million citizens are immigrants! When immigrants come to the United States, they obviously have to get a job. Three immigrants in particular decided to work in the music, dance, and acting industries, and they were extremely successful in their occupations. She has won many awards including seven Grammy awards! To add to that, she has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. This may not be part of her music career, but President Obama has also awarded her and her husband the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This further supports that Gloria Estefan has made a great impact on not only the music industry but also on America in general (Gloria Estefan). Gloria Estefan has made great contributions to the United States of America. She is the founder of the Gloria Estefan Foundation, which supports many causes in Florida, where she lives, and all around the country. Balanchine was originally from Russia, but he moved to the United States as an adult. Once he was in the U.S. he co-founded the New York City Ballet, and was the artistic director. George also co-founded the School of American Ballet and the American Ballet. As one can see, because of Balanchine’s hard work, three ballet companies are still operating today and are thriving (George Balanchine). While living in America, George Balanchine choreographed many pieces. Ballet was always his strong suit, but he also created dances using other genres of dance. The information from George Balanchine Biography states that, “In addition to ballet, Balanchine also choreographed Hollywood movies and Broadway musicals.” On top of that, in George Balanchine’s whole career he has created 465 ballets!
