Globalization affects all of us. It affects the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the cars we drive, the places we travel to, and even the television we watch. These daily interactions often create some type of global interaction with us even knowing. This paper will define globalization, provide the history of globalization, focus on the _____ theory, discuss the general dimensions of globalization, review some of the successes and failures of globalization, review the debate of hyperglobalizers and identify the current trends of globalization and how it affects cities.

Globalization’s common features are interdependency, interconnection, shrinking of space, speeding up time, capital and technology. Interdependency is the idea that people from all over the world depend on one another in different aspects of life. Interconnections are the belief that people are connected to places that were unheard of due to distance. Shrinking of space is the concept that distance is not as important as it used to be, because places that were considered far are now easier to reach. Speeding up time is the concept that the world operates at a faster rate, in terms of money, ideas, information, and people.
