Wilson Tobbi Schoening English 9B 21 May Why We Should Care Global Warming otherwise known as climate change is one of the biggest problems facing the 21stcentury. Yet most people don't seem to understand just how far reaching and impactful the effects of Global Warming can be. Because of this most people don't seem to care much about it or try to stop it, saying that ?it is not animportant issue?. the truth though is that Global Warming is a very important issue that we should care about, and here's why. by created human activities (?Vital Signs of the Planet?). ?So what is the ?greenhouse effect??? you might ask, well based ona article from the Australian government the ?greenhouse effect? is a natural process that traps some of the sun's energy in the earth's atmosphere and reflects the rest of it back into space(?Greenhouse effect?). The energy that was trapped in the atmosphere makes it's way to the lower atmosphere and the surface heating them up, this process when working normally helps to keep the earth from being a lot colder. This process works thanks to gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, and methane theses gases are responsible for blocking the sun's energy from being reflected back into space increasing the amount of energy absorbed by the atmosphere. This means that the more gasthere is in the atmosphere the more energy there is that will be absorbed and themore energy there is in the atmosphere the hotter the earth gets, and this is where the term Global Warming comes from. Because humans for over the past 100 years have been expelling large amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases in to the atmosphere theearth's temperature has begun to increase having many harmful effects on the environment. The other thing that we need to know in order to fully understand
