Global Warming Lab

The purpose of this experiment was to figure out which of the four foods could burn the longest and cause the most temperature change in water. To carry out this lab, all groups had to hold a piece of burning food under a can of water and record the change in temperature. Also, every piece of food had to be weighted before and after burning to see the change in mass. With the change in mass and the temperature change, you can then figure out what they total amount of calories for that piece of was. Table 1 above shows all of the data that my lab partner, Jamie, and I collected during our experiment. Table 2 is a combination of all of the data from the 12 groups. That data is then averaged for each food, with the highest and lowest numbers not

Thermodynamics of Cheetos Purpose: to analyze the caloric content of snack foods, by determining the calories of heat given off by a Cheeto, or other snack foods, as it burns. Procedure: The food sample (Cheeto) was placed on a food holder, and the initial combined mass of the food holder and the Cheeto was measured and recorded. Using a graduated cylinder, 50-100 milliliters (ml) of water was measured and added to an empty soda can that was cut in half and cleaned.…

My STEAM Expo experiment was testing which hamster food gives hamsters the most energy to hamsters. I tested three store brand foods: Carefresh Complete, Sunseed, and Nibble Rings. I also tested one that I made based off of the research that I did prior to the experiment. I thought that this project was perfect for my three hamsters, because they are all very tired and lazy. I also think that other people can use my type of food so that their hamsters can be energetic, too.…

The purpose of this lab is to see how the Greenhouse Effect works. To understand how this phenomenon works, we placed two bottles near a heat lamp - one with air and the other one filled with carbon dioxide. The bottle with the air started out at 24 ℃, while the one with carbon dioxide started out at 28 ℃. As soon as we placed the two bottles by the heat lamp, we noticed that the temperature of each bottle increased rapidly. However, the temperature increased more in the bottle with the carbon dioxide.…

Conclusion The data shows that group 3 had the most efficient calorimeter. Our calorimeter did increase the energy captured by the water with every modification we made during the trials. To modify the calorimeter you can change the can to a Styrofoam cup or aluminum can. You could also add more insulation to your calorimeter.…

Introduction: Atmospheric circulation patterns exert a tremendous influence on regional weather and climate especially in the mid-latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere1. However, there is a significant debate over how patterns will respond to climate change. In this experiment, I will analyze climate models using a specific metric called sinuosity to determine how climate change will affect circulation patterns in the mid-latitudes. This information is impactful and important as changes in circulation patterns may raise the probability for extreme weather like heat waves. Through this research process, I want to learn more about the effects of climate change and how climate modeling is used to predict future impacts.…

Global warming, the increase of Earth’s atmospheric temperature, and climate change, the long-term change in Earth’s climate, are enormous, controversial topics in today’s world. One possible cause of these two happenings -- human activity. This worldwide issue needs to be researched and focused on by the people. The long hot temperatures, excessive weather, and other abnormalities may be effects of global warming and climate change. In addition, if humans are to blame, all should know more about this occurrence; therefore, they can attempt to better their ways to avoid worsening the issue.…

In order to have a better understanding of Global Warming it is crucial to have a clear perspective of how it is affecting society and our planet today. Rainstorms, droughts, record high temperatures, the significant melting of ice glaciers and lastly the rising of sea levels are just some effects that have become increasingly prevailing in our day to day lives. Heat waves amongst precipitation under global warming are major threats to human and animal health and safety. The ongoing days of drought and precipitation changing patterns can be the origin to a devastating forest fire, later leading to animal death, shortage of food and no ecosystem for many wildlife inhabitants. Moreover, the continuation of warmer atmospheric temperatures, holding…

Initially I was confused as to why my friends and family were reacting so dramatically to this news, but the more I read about the relevance of the Paris Climate Agreement, the more I began to feel the same way. From the first science classes I took in public school to graduation, I learned about greenhouse-gasses and the basics of global warming- how humanity has such a deep impact on our planet’s health.…

Cool water was placed into the calorimeter and its temperature recorded, while an equal weight of water was heated to 35.3 ⁰C. The heated water was immediately poured into the water in the calorimeter and the temperature was recorded. The water equivalent of the calorimeter could then be calculated. Approximately 100 g of cool distilled water was placed into the calorimeter and the initial temperature recorded. Solid sodium sulphate decahydrate crystals of 4.00 g were added to the water in the calorimeter and stirred until it dissolved.…
