Global Warming Is Becoming A Major Issue Essay

“These islands aren 't causing this problem. And because of that, they 're powerless to save themselves” (CNN). As a resident of East Tennessee, I do not see the effects of global warming on a day-to-day basis; if I’m being honest, I do not believe I have ever really experienced this besides an abnormally warm winter’s day. I have always heard of global warming being a thing, but I never realized how it impacts the lives of hundreds of thousands of people each day. After reading these articles, I believe that global warming is becoming a major issue that needs to be dealt with immediately.
Sea levels are rising because of the enormous amounts of carbon dioxide gas being emitted from the use of fossil fuels; mainly from the United States with China as a close second. Because of our use of fossil fuels, carbon dioxide gas is being trapped in the atmosphere so that creates warmer temperatures, and because of these warmer temperatures, Antarctica and Greenland, along with other areas full of ice in the ocean, are melting which raises the sea levels. These rising sea levels are literally drowning small island nations like Kiribati, the Maldives, and the Marshall Islands; these countries are drowning because of us.
In order to prevent the destruction of these countries, the United States needs to become a forerunner in the fight to decrease fossil fuels and then, hopefully, eliminate them all together. Some policies that should be put in place should be to start relying more on…
