“Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth’s average surface temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse gases released as people burn fossil fuels. The global average surface temperature rose 0.6 to 0.9 degrees Celsius (1.1 to 1.6° F) between 1906 and 2005, and the rate of temperature increase has nearly doubled in the last 50 years. Temperatures are certain to go up further.” (Earth Observatory). As a current student and an environmentalist, I took it upon myself to choose a crucial topic that affects us not only socially but globally. Global warming is indeed a social issue, but it’s global impact has significantly increased throughout the years since it’s establishment. I am a huge advocate for constructive change especially when it’s destructively altering our Earth and the way we live. Society needs to recognize that we cannot take the subject of global warming with a grain of salt, it has proven time and time again as a force not to be reckoned with. I am deeply inspired by enthusiasts who want the world to know not only what the problems are, but how we can resolve it. This obviously becomes complicated because we are still facing a crisis where people still have a wall built up and refuse to take global warming into account. Personally, what I want to gain from my research is an overall understanding of global warming currently and how the public can contribute prolifically by any means necessary.
