Scientists say that 32% of the ice has melted since 1960, and if this trend continues, there will be a period of time in the year where there is no ice in the passage. Shipping companies will be able to use this to their advantage, and ships that are too big to fit through smaller canals can cut 1000s of kilometers off of their journey. This will not only save valuable time for commercial shippers, but also money considering they will not need as much fuel to complete their journey. By having a safe route through the Arctic ships traveling between Tokyo and London will have a passage that is around 7000 km shorter. Not only is this a positive for imports, but in the future resources that are found in the Arctic will be able to be shipped out straight from the North. Since the warming has given us access to the resources in the Arctic, our economy will rise, and become stronger. Now that new shipping routes are opening up, the shipping industry has taken a turn for the better, and it is now able to save a lot of money and time, which will have a positive impact on the price of imported goods. Inuit communities will be positively impacted by the cheaper costs of transporting goods, and now that development has started in the north, job have been popping up everywhere. That will allow communities in the north to flourish, and be able to sustain their needs. It is apparent that global warming will be with us for the long haul, so will you pour out the rest of your glass, or will you allow yourself to see the benefits that come with global warming such as a strengthened economy, or an improved lifestyle for the Inuit?
