This is an essay regulated around a case study from Via Afrika Grade 10 geography from pages 106-115.
The greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the Earth’s surface. When the Sun’s energy reaches the Earth’s atmosphere, some of it is reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases. Africa contributes the least to global warming , we are only responsible for 4% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions however we are the continent that suffers most Global warming towards Africa has many consequences, impacts on the environment as well as us human beings. Nonetheless all these problems have possible solutions and strategies that will surely improve life on earth. …show more content…
Africa will experience great evaporation from rivers, dams and lakes Many African countries are really far from the sea’s and oceans. So those people will experience large seasonal ranges in the temperature A new study made on the Kenyan Tsavo National Park showed that "large infrequent disturbances" like a severe drought on Maasai territory at the end of the 19th century (1883-1902) led to the most devastating effects. "Severe disturbance events and rapid environmental change tend to occur infrequently, but can have a lasting effect on both environment and society" says Dr Lindsey Gilson. Costal storms as well as rising sea levels in some African countries have turned streets into rivers. This a good example of flash floods. Droughts in Africa , like the one is East Africa in 2011, destroyed not only the landscape of the area but also triggered refugee …show more content…
Renewable energy sources such as wind energy, hydro energy, tidal energy ,solar energy bio energy and geothermal energy are the available renewable and revivable energy sources around the world that we should depend on. This is because these energy sources are renewable as well as revivable Boosting energy efficiency. The energy used to power, heat, and cool our homes, businesses, and industries is the single largest contributor to global warming. Energy efficiency technologies allow us to use less energy to get the same or higher level of production and service This approach has potential to save both energy and money. We should incorporate carbon taxes for when people purposefully buy items that emit more than a certain amount of carbon. As much as we get tired of being remind that we should plant more tries. The impact of this doing is very essential and important as it will not cost us to perform this action and the benefits are for a lifetime. Trees as well as forests absorb carbon dioxide. This is very effective and free. We should find ways of raising awareness and educating people about ways to conserve energy and recycling to reduce the carbon
