In “Save the Earth, Buy Less” Jared Blumenfeld points out “China will overtake the United States next year to become the world’s largest producer of greenhouse gases. China and United States together emit 40 percent of the planet’s carbon dioxide.” The most worrying threat to our planet at the present time is global warming. Global warming is a massive problem for one to solve, but we can create positive changes by making environment-conscious personal choices and inspiring others to take collective action. I believe we all can take actions to reduce the global warming: we can reduce pollution by recycling products, we can conserve water and we can reduce the usage of vehicles. All these actions can contribute to making our planet a “greener”

Clean water reserves are becoming less as the water demand increases with the growing population. We can take a lot of steps for conserving water for the betterment of our future generations. For instance, when we brush our teeth, we usually leave the faucet open all the time. Leaving the faucet open during brushing wastes a lot of water. We should not leave the faucet open and save all the water from wasting. In addition, some people take the shower for a long time. Taking shower longer wastes a lot of water. To save water, we can install a low-flow showerhead and take shorter showers. Also, sometimes we leave tap open waiting for the cold water to come. Keeping a jug of cold drinking water in the refrigerator will help us conserve the water. Furthermore, toilets are also the main source of water use in our homes. By replacing old, inefficient toilets with the low-flush water-efficient toilets, we will be able to save a lot of water. These low-flush toilets allow a user to flush according to their need. For example, if the waste is solid, we can press two buttons for flushing, and if the waste is liquid, then we have the option to press only one button. When my brother bought a home, he replaced all the old toilets with newer water-efficient toilets, and they do save a lot of water. Carpooling is beneficial on an individual level and for our environment protection as well. It can reduce air pollution and it also saves your money. Moreover, carpooling also helps conserve non-renewable energy sources like gasoline, diesel etc. Biking is also a good idea for overcoming the global warming. However, if we use bikes, then we also need bike tracks because it is dangerous to drive on the roads along with cars. The hybrid cars are also helpful for conserving the valuable resources and environment. These cars do not produce smog at all, which means there would not be any chemicals in the air.
