Agribusiness is around 91% of the reason why the forests are being knocked down. There is up to an acre every second cleared in the rainforest, for food, and land for cattle. According to Mongabay environmental group, there are 136 million acres lost for agribusiness yearly. Mongabay also states that these deforesters will use a slash and burn technique. Which is exactly how it sounds, cut down the trees, and then burn them. This technique leaves nutrient-rich soil on top, the crops are quickly planted, and those nutrients from the ashen soil are almost immediately depleted. Keeping the soil nutritious for the crop, like soy or bananas, calls for a lot of fertilizer that is brought into these countries, where not all is absorbed into the soil, and the waste goes into our water supplies, and oceans, creating what are known as dead zones. Dead zones effect the animals, plant life, and other organisms that life in that area of the ocean. That is just the effects of the crops used in these forests, not including the damage the animals do, especially since it is not the climate or environment that these animals are meant to be …show more content…
Mr. Will Tuttle in the movie Cowspiracy compared it to the drunk in the family that no one talks about, but he is the reason that the family is having problems. No one wants to give up the consumption of 229 pounds of meat by Americans daily. Americans love meat, and can’t have anything taken away from them. The agribusiness should be exposed for their harsh conditions of the animals, and the damage that is being done to our planet. We only have one planet that is suitable for living, and it should be better taken care of. The United States or the world would never go completely vegan, but there is a way to consume less meat to decrease the amount of greenhouse gases. People need the knowledge, so there needs to be an environmental group to step up and speak out against these huge
