Constraining economic growth or transforming the operation of the world economy is the only way to slow the process of global warming. Tapia Granados, a researcher at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, said, "If ‘business as usual’ conditions continue, economic contractions the size of the Great Recession or even bigger will be needed to reduce atmospheric levels of CO₂". (Swanbrow, 2012). Human activity since the Industrial Revolution has increased the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere including, emissions from energy, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide. The concentration of carbon dioxide and methane emissions have increased from 280 parts per million to 400 parts per million in the last 150 years, about 36% to 148%, according to the NASA (A blanket around the Earth). With human- produced greenhouse gases, the earth’s temperature is rising more than the past 50 years. Economic development has led to industrial development with the purpose to serve the interests of human demand. As the result, when the Industrial Revolution happened in mid-1700s, it has changed everything in the human lifestyle. Especially, when machinery becomes the most useful tools for development of industrialization globally, it drags on the beginning of the area of energy consumption. People …show more content…
According to the United Nation Population, world human population rose rapidly from 1.6 billion to 6.1 billion people during the 20th century (Does Population Growth Impact Climate Change?). Wondering how much it will increase in 2015, even though in fact everyone could realize that the amount would never go down. The growth of population is the root of all problems related to the environmental and climatic changes. Large population means greater demand; these needs include food, electricity and transport. To meet the demand of human, fossil fuels are consumed increasingly more, and ultimately leads to warming global. Furthermore, people breathe out carbon dioxide in the air daily; therefore, the population growth in the worldwide results of the enormous amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere due to human is extremely high. An organization of the Global Population and Environment Program at the Sierra Club stated, “Population, global warming and consumption patterns are inextricably linked in their collective global environmental impact” (Does Population Growth Impact Climate Change?). It explains that always exist the problems between population growth and global warming, and especially the population growth rate now will be “significant factor in magnifying the impacts of global warming” (Does Population Growth Impact Climate Change?). Based on the analysis from the experts,
