Long before the age of humans, the idea of global warming would not have existed. Global warming is the the increase in the world 's temperature that is believed to be caused by the increase of certain gases (such as carbon dioxide) in the atmosphere (“Global Warming”). This increase in the globe’s temperature is attributed to the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is the warming caused by certain kinds of “greenhouse” gases absorbing infrared light that would have normally been radiated into space. Infrared light is what allows for the heat caused by light bulbs. This infrared light is absorbed by gases like carbon dioxide that are present in the atmosphere (“Greenhouse Effect”). In order to better understand global warming, the United Nations put together a panel of well-known scientists to research global warming and climate change. This panel is known as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC. Every few years the IPCC meets in order to discuss recent changes in global warming. At every meeting the IPCC creates a report summarizing all the findings of the scientists. These reports represent an agreement amongst these hundreds of leading scientists ("Global Warming Causes, Climate Change...”). Scientists have found that not just one gas causes global warming, but many. The main culprit in the rise of global warming is the combustion of fossil fuels in things such as cars. Specifically carbon dioxide or CO2 is the gas that causes the most warming as…
