Global South Christianity

Contextualization for the Global South is a Perspective of Authority of the Bible and and to a Degree of Emphasis on Old Testament and New Testament. There is a fascinating correspondence between the social issues and the view on biblical authority of the global South churches and those of the African-American churches. As Jenkins notes, "The socially liberating effects of evangelical religion should come as no surprise to anyone who has traced the enormous influence of biblically based religion throughout African-American history.…When viewed on a global scale, African-American religious styles, long regarded as marginal to mainstream American Christianity, now seem absolutely standard" (Jenkins 2006, 13). A fundamental reason given for many global South churches to adopt a more literal approach to Scriptural authority is that the Bible is seen to address the real-world social issues that are central to their daily experiences. Western theologians, liberal and conservative have been addressing the faith with uncertainty and worldly, to the fundamental beliefs of secular ideologies. Global South Christians in contrast did not live in uncertainty, but instead dealt with conflicting claims to faith with their different neighbors. The growing significance of Christianity in global South nations, demanded to be understood by anyone interested in the future development of those regions. Different forms of the faith raised questions about the Western forms of Christianity that have so long been regarded as the correct way. Looking at the impact of the Bible in the Two-Thirds World, the choice of texts and the manner in which they read reminded the Northern churches of scriptural tradition that might have been lost.
