The Korean War was the first war in which a coalition of international forces played a major role in global security. On June 25, 1950, with the blessing and support of Russia and China, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) troops invaded their neighbors to the south, the Republic of Korea (RoK). Three years of intense combat left both countries razed, with over 1.6 million communist troops from China and DPRK and about 580,000 troops from the United Nations and RoK killed, seriously wounded, or reported missing.
