Carbon Sequestration Of Fossil Fuels

Our current problem, global warming caused by the growing amount of emissions, can no longer be swept under the rug. As we all know, global warming is caused by carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere. But, now there is a possible solution of burying it deep underground or beneath the ocean. The burning of fossil fuels poses a great threat to rising sea levels, stronger storms, and agricultural disruptions. Most importantly the global temperature level rising. Humans are in risk with carbon dioxide being emitted to the atmosphere daily. There is no simple solution to removing carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere. Fossil fuels are one of the most essential source to power our daily needs. Although, renewable energy is emerging to reduce global …show more content…
The method of carbon sequestration already has some key parts. The chemical system is currently being used in some facilities such dry ice manufacture and beverage carbonation. This brings the idea that the same approach be used towards coal-burning electric power plants. The smokestacks could be replaced with absorption towers. The first tower can separate the carbon dioxide from the other gases such as water vapor and nitrogen to absorb it. The second tower would separate the carbon dioxide from the absorbing chemicals, which would allow for the absorbing chemicals to be returned to the first tower for reuse. When the burned coal is done with oxygen rather than air it would allow for it to be much easier. It would be mixed only with water vapor, not nitrogen. Which would allow for the water vapor to be condensed, leaving pure carbon dioxide gas that can be stored away safely for …show more content…
If the carbon dioxide is stored underneath the ocean, there is going to be many more problems. If a leak occurs after the certain limit has been reached the carbon dioxide would spread into the ocean. This would affect the organisms and the organism’s habitat. Soon now we would have a much bigger environmental problem. After the carbon dioxide has manifested into the ocean water it would still be entering the atmosphere. Now we would be left with trillions of stored carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and pose a great threat to the ocean’s organism’s habitat. Another possible way to use the carbon sequestration is by using it on automobiles. Cars play a major role in burning fossil fuels. To travel, we use cars daily burning many tons of carbon daily around the world. Just like I mentioned earlier by using two pipes for coal-burning electric power plants, we can prevent from the carbon dioxide emitted from all the cars go into the atmosphere. There could be new cars made with two pipes to prevent the chemicals from going into the

The burning of fossil fuels is dangerous to the environment because it’s heating up the atmosphere and increasing global warming. I think scientists should be designated to research a better option for renewable energy, including looking into Solar and Wind power. In our everyday lives we burn fossil fuels by simply driving our cars, but if there were a more eco-friendly, affordable car that ran on something else like electricity, the pollution in the atmosphere would be reduced dramatically. To show this, Bill McKibbon, an environmentalist and fonder of 350.org states, “Many of the technologies we need, we have to get off fossil fuel and onto something else” (McKibbon). Once a reliable, stable replacement for fossil fuels is discovered, it needs to be used and easily accessible for the population.…

An alternate form of energy production that is possible immediately is nuclear. Fossil fuels are destroying the environment, and solar energy is not good enough; nuclear power is the answer to human’s energy crisis. The burning of coal is currently our main source of energy. Not only is it destroying the environment, the amount of coal left on the planet will not last long. The waste generated by coal is carbon dioxide, which leads to global warming due to the greenhouse effect.…

However, there are some problems. Environmental pollution is one of the main disadvantages of fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are burnt to generate electric energy, it generates carbon dioxide, which is one of the major causes of global warming. Global warming Rise in temperature of the earth cause in melting of polar icebergs, as a result submerging low area by rising in sea levels (Rinkesh, n.d). Besides, it is also well known that extracted with dinosaurs or ancient plants, fossil fuels will be finished in the near future.…

Causes and Effects of Global Warming Aside from war, poverty, and crime, one of the major world issues is global warming. Global warming is a phenomenon caused by the hole in the ozone layer. This hole allows ultraviolet, also known as UV, rays to cover the Earth like a blanket since the purpose of the ozone layer is to block these rays. The burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the air that wraps the UV rays around the Earth which causes the warming of the Earth. In understanding what global warming is and what causes it, we can better understand how to prevent global warming and preserve our Earth.…

Today, we are facing the environmental crisis of global warming. A major factor that is contributing to this is the use and burning of fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and oil. Through the process of coal burning, Carbon Dioxide is formed as a result, which is one of the major causes of the Greenhouse effect. With the Greenhouse effect, the Earth’s average temperature rises, causing ice caps to melt, which is an effect of global warming. To put a stop to this, our population needs to change our current energy sources to renewable resources, such as solar energy.…

She climbs, " Tuvalu 's problem is one that people worldwide are believed to create by burning fossil fuels that release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere contributing to global warming" (Allen). It shows that the burning of the fossil fuels is the major reason of global…

Many people don’t realize that one of the ways to reduce global warming is by saving energy. Generating energy doesn’t happen on its own; in fact we use combustion of fossil fuels to produce energy. The word combustion by itself will give you a heads up of understanding the relation between energy and global warming. Combustion means burning; and burning fossil fuels is very important to us because it is our source of energy, but if we don’t help in saving energy, factories will burn more and more fossil fuels to produce more energy for us. The more the factories burn fossil fuels the more pollution it will cause, meaning more greenhouse effect due to the waste gases that is produced, which can cause a climate change.…

Since carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, the earth’s heat can be trapped by the emission of this gas, and with so many industries dependent on the burning of coal, we can only see ourselves disposing all of the potential progress we have made with climate change policies as we continue to use coal. For our fears with rising waters, we must…

Introduction The Earth’s climate is experiencing rapid changes, which can be attributed to human activities. Certain gasses, such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2), act like a blanket and trap heat in the atmosphere. These gasses are released into the atmosphere everyday through the burning of fossil fuels. This phenomenon, called the greenhouse effect, is naturally occurring, and is necessary for life on Earth. However, the extreme accumulation of these gasses results in dangerous effects to Earth’s ecosystems and human health.…

In the same fashion activities like burning of coal, exhaust fumes from cars, and tree burning produce extra amounts of gas contributing to greenhouse effect or global warming. Global warming as a result is caused from greenhouse effect. Furthermore, the burning of fossil fuels is really important to this issue. Fossil fuels are any combustible material, as oil, coal, or natural gas, derived from the remains of former life. Fossil fuels contain carbon and when burnt the carbon combines with oxygen in the atmosphere forming carbon dioxide.…
