As said earlier aviation plays a vital role in world economy as it transfers people and cargo all over the world hence helping economies to grow. Aviation has progressed a lot in terms of reducing the carbon footprint and emission of other harmful substances like Nitrous Oxide (NO) and Lead. Aviation only contributes to about 2% of CO2 emissions but looking at the fast growth the prevention is necessary to avoid adverse effects. The CCC also claim that if not monitored would rise to 15-20% by 2050.
The European commission’s ‘Emission Trading Scheme’ for aviation industry will be imposed from the start of 2012. EC says that aviation CO2 emissions are growing a rapid pace and its mitigation is necessary by imposing fines on the flights to and from the EU. Though the CO2 emissions by aviation is much lesser than that of other modes of transport i.e. road (22%) and shipping (14%), aviation industry is one of the fastest growing industries and it’s going to be the most preferred mode of transport in the future.
