My Family Is One Of The Most Important Values

Family, though a broad value, is nonetheless one of the most important values that instills deeper values in a person and makes them who they are. Family values are a vital part of establishing a foundation, influencing decision making, providing guidance, and resisting outside influences. Throughout my life, my family has impressed values such as loyalty, honesty, support, hard work, respect, trust, humility, and love into me. When a family goes through change and faces trials such as new jobs and sickness, key values like support, love and trust are brought out.

We had never done this before, so my brother and I were unsure why we were going. After arguing about it for a minute, my dad said something about not knowing how long we will have each other, which really freaked me out because he was talking about death. They still would not tell me what was going on until he started going to Oklahoma City for tests. I found out that the night he had his appendix removed, the doctors gave him the devastating news that they thought he could have pancreatic cancer, which would leave him with only months to live. It was not always easy to trust that my dad knew what he was doing and sacrificing for the betterment of others, but over the years I have come to appreciate the decision that he made, and even though he may not think it was the best, it brought my family closer together and we all gained an abundance of trust and respect for one another. Support is a major factor in a family that sticks together through thick and thin. When the doctors thought my dad was sick I did not know what to think or feel. All I wanted to do was cry, but I don’t think that I have ever loved or appreciated my family more. Looking back on these times I realize that I did take a few very valuable things away from all of these situations. I now understand why family is so important to me because they have taught me how important the love, support, and trust you have within your
