Global Business Strategy Reflection
For the online discussion activity, I was allocated to Team H, with the project topic about the Rhine River Basin - any lessons for the rivers of Asia. My group leader, Jolene Lee, took the initiative to contact us and she quickly allocated us with our roles the following day. Luckily, I was given the role to use googledocs, which I am very comfortable with when it comes to projects. I find my leader’s way of doing things very efficient. I understand that it would have taken a longer time if she was to seek everyone’s opinion for everything. Thus, having the roles delegated by her from the start allows all members to start working on their work.
In addition, when it comes to content choices, my leader also set the parameters for the topic. Although the members were not given the choice of selecting our tasks, I believe that it saved us a lot of time as we only had one week to work on this exercise. The following were the outline and the members put in charge:
1. Summarize important and relevant points for

As both of us could use googledocs, communication was smooth and I could easily follow up from where she left off. Besides that, I could also follow up with what the other members had researched on when she copy and pasted their research parts onto googledocs. I could also easily leave a comment on areas I did not understand, to which she would contact the respective member to ask. I understand that she faced difficulties contacting and getting quick responses from the other members due to their conflicting time schedule as well as the limitations for the platforms that they were allocated such as Skype. After the research was completed, Janus, Jolene and I summarised the work and put them up on googleslides. Following which, we completed the last slide regarding the difficulties and problems faced during this

My responsibilities were attending our group meetings, participating in discussions and presentation, completing my tasks before each due date, and making sure that my work met the requirements. With time, I also recognized the importance of fostering flexibility and responsiveness because this could increase my ability to respond to change. For example, sometimes our discussion did not strictly follow our agenda; however, we came up with…

Project Citizen has been a wonderful experience. That has taught me many things that I can apply to my daily life that I may have never even thought of if I didn’t do Project Citizen. Even though I had a great time doing this project, I learned most people like to do less work and especially if someone is willing to pick up their slack for a better grade. When working in a team it gets a little hard to find motivation unless you all talk and make a clear plan of what people are doing for the group and when they need to have it done. There were times when our group lost focus really easy and we found ourselves scrambling with things that could have been done if we would have just sat down and defined a day that we wanted it done.…

Throughout the project, I have faced many challenges. Out of many challenges throughout, the most challenging challenge was on leadership. I do not have autocratic leadership where I can order others to do something. My leadership is more participative leadership, where I consult with group, making group decisions and sharing power, and authority. When the word “leadership” arise, I automatically think of autocratic leadership as I was taught that people who have leadership leads the group with controlled authorities.…

It is important from the outset of a project for roles within the team to be established. This is usually covered in the application and interview process, but should be covered with the entire team together for clarification purposes. While you don’t want to stifle members of the team who may have great ideas, it is also important that there are not “too many cooks in the kitchen.” Accountability is just a bigger word that means responsibility. If you have a task or part you have to do it becomes your responsibility and your teammates are counting on you to get it done or…

Having started the People and Organization module, in the first week of seminar, forming a group was necessary, as it was a discussion based activity, but unknowingly it helped me form my group for the Junction Hotel presentation. The aim behind this piece of writing is to reflect upon the process and the formation of my group. Reflection is ‘... a form of mental processing with a purpose and/or anticipated outcome that is applied to relatively complex or unstructured ideas for which there is not an obvious solution’. (Moon 1999 pg.23). Moon (1999) also states that we reflect for many reasons; important reasons being to critically review our behavior and that of others.…

Controlling is a process of establishing performance standards based on the organization objectives, evaluating and reporting actual performance, comparing the two, and taking corrective or preventive action as necessary. This function makes sure that goals are met. All the successful organizations, not important the size or how big they are pay close attention to the controlling function. In these moments we are learning of our errors and modifying part of the system of medical transportation and patient’s identification where some errors reduced the effectiveness of the organization.…

We all tried, but I think some of us took the project more seriously than others. Kevin was always late to our meetings event though when we created the team contract we agreed to be punctual unless there was an emergency. I doubt that there was an emergency every single week when we met. I think Amy and myself did most of the work, we had to assign work for Kevin and Shaohui to do otherwise they would not take the initiative to do something unless we asked them to do it which was frustrating because Kevin was supposed to be the project manager and it was his responsibility to make sure that we were doing our part and being the leader of the team. I am not saying that it was all his responsibility because we are all adults and can do our part, but what I am saying is that they were not behaving as adults.…
