Glenn Cunningham once said, “early lessons in the art of overcoming or you’re never beaten till you quit” (Kiell 48). The disability that Glenn had was burned legs and he could not walk when it first happened because of how bad the burned happened. The treatment he had on his legs was at home and he used aloe cream for he’s legs so when it got better he could run (Kiell 37). There are many people injured by fires in the world, and Glenn was one of them (“Burn Injury Facts”).

He can not walk that far at all, but he can run, and he liked running (Kiell 46). When he found out that he could run, he started running places and that's how he got into track and field (Lobb 46). Glenn all so had societal obstacles with bullies and telling people. The thing with the bullies was that they would push him and laugh at him and make fun of his legs. The thing about telling people is that he did not want people to laugh at him, and not be his friend, or be rude so he just tried to stay quito about it (Kiell 59). Glenn was dealing with the disability since he was a children and going to church. The problem is when he first got the burnes was the doctor said he is not going to live but he did as he is a world record breaker (Lobb 46). There are many reasons why he is famous he broke a lot of world records. The Sullivan Award was given to him for winning the most outstanding athlete because of his fast running records. Some of Glenn’s world records were 4:6.7 sec, and 4:11.1 (Lobb 47). He had a PhD time for 4:67, Glenn was in the Olympics, and in 1933 he came in fourth place in running (47). He ran in a indoor race and got 4:11.9, a new record for that place (Kiell
