Glenn and Beth Burn were serving at Tallahassee's Haven of Rest Rescue Mission from 1999-2009, and felt compelled to do more. They felt that the rescue mission was not able to provide shelter for women and children, and the necessary needs for the vulnerable members of the community was apparent. The Burns, who previously raised a number of orphaned children, began meeting those needs by opening their personal home to women and families in crisis. They also encouraged others in the community to do the same as well.
