Both glass and people are unique. No two pieces of glass or two people are the same. In the play, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, one character Laura collects glass. Laura is twenty three and she has a crippled leg. Because of her crippled leg, she became very shy and lost all confidence. Laura’s glass collection represents Laura in many ways. Like glass, Laura is unique, delicate, and beautiful. Being unique is not being like anyone else, and Laura definitely is not like anyone else in the play. Laura’s favorite piece of glass is her unicorn, because it is unlike all the other pieces of glass. “He stays on a shelf with some horses that don’t have horns and all of them seem to get along nicely together” (1.7.354).
