In today’s progressive society, women and minorities still have to face new challenges every day. They are beguiled with the promise of equality but whenever they try to succeed, they keep on hitting their head on the glass ceiling over and over.
The term „glass ceiling“ refers to an invisible barrier preventing women and/ or people of a certain age or ethnicity from achieving further success in the workplace. The phrase was first mentioned in a 1984 book by Gay Bryant, in which he examined the status of women in the workplace. This exact phenomenon is the main idea of the speeches by Sheryl Sandberg and Alice Eagly. The two activists do, however, approach the topic differently.
