My experiment is about making a Glass bottle xylophone that plays six notes
What is sound and how does it travel?
Sound is a sort of energy made by vibrations (Jane. E, 2016). When any object vibrates, it causes movement in the air particles (Jane. E, 2016). These particles bump into the particles close to them, which makes them vibrate too causing them to bump into more air particles (Jane. E, 2016). This movement, called sound waves, keeps going until they run out of energy (Carson. B, 2014) . Sound goes in waves from a transmitter to a collector through a medium (Carson. B, 2014). The wave is created by the vibration of particles in mediums, for example, gasses, fluids and solids (Carson. B, 2014).
Link between music and musical notes
The link between music and notes is very similar as the slower the vibrations the lower the frequency of a note (Carson. B, 2014). So when you hit a high note the sound is quick and fast for example a triangle the frequency is low (Carson. B, 2014). However when you hit a lower note it is slower such as a base drum the frequency will be …show more content…
To make sound from it, you can blow in it or you can hit the sides of the bottle with a stick. However the key thing to make the bottles sound different from one another is by pouring different amounts of water into the bottles so they play different notes when used. This means that the instrument must be a woodwind or a percussion instrument. To make it a percussion instrument it would mean that you would only need to hit shake or whatever else would produces sound (White. S, 2000). Such as a drum, xylophone or a tambourine (White. S, 2000). On the other hand it could also be a woodwind because when you blow into the bottles they make a sound as well (White. S, 2000). Woodwind instruments are things that air may be blown across or on the surface, for example a flute or clarinet (White. S,
