Mr. Griffin was a pedestrian who was hit by a motor vehicle, traveling approximately 50 mph. EMS arrived on scene and he was unconscious. His Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) was a “3”. He was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital where is Glasgow Coma Scale in the ER was 7 or 8. He appeared to be un-kept and was wearing all black clothing with dreadlock like hair. His clothing and body were covered with scabies and bugs. Mr. Griffin was cleansed with lotion to kill the scabies and his hair was shaved off. His pupils were sluggish to light. He had obvious deformities of his left humerus and left leg. His fractures sites were splinted in the emergency department. He had a right inguinal hernia. There was crepitus to his left tibia and fibula. Both legs were swollen and edematous. He was completely nonverbal. He would open his eyes to painful stimuli. Griffin had intensive therapy and made improvements in his recovery which he was able to make a transition into one of the group homes through Irvine. He walks with a slow shuffle and when in the community uses a scooter, he requires supervision and directions, medication administration, assistance with meal preparation and cooking, dressing and ADL’s. Mr. Griffin behavioral issues are addressed by the Irvine facility and needs encourage to participate in activities. Mr. Griffin benefits from the routine and structure and is attached to the staff and individuals who have assisted him. Mr. Griffin has participated in Paint a Miracle Art Studio once a week and has flourished. Mr. Griffin completed an FCE and received permanent restrictions. He was also evaluated by vocational and was determine that he would benefit from a work shop placement. Vocational was placed on hold until the necessary id and SS information were obtained as the guardian had initial difficulty obtaining. Eventually the items were obtained and vocational
