When a company positions itself as a youthful and trendy brand, certain aspects of the business model will operate differently than a company with a blander approach to the market. The company’s brand is impacted by the products, the employees, the brick-and-mortar facilities, and the online presence. For these reasons, companies in this type of segment must look at recruiting, training, and customer service from a unique angle. Case 67 provides a great example of an organization forced to re-visit aspects of their business model, including employee incentives. As with many start-up endeavors, Howe 2 Ski Stores provided a niche service and utilized an inner-circle of people to work for the company.…

ABC Company, Inc., has recently recognized the growing need to hire millennials due to the gradual loss of Baby Boomers to retirement. Within the next 5 years, ABC needs to find a way to attract qualified millennials by offering benefits that suit their specific needs, which differ from those of older generations. Millennials, unlike their older co-workers, are risk-averse for their age. They prefer to receive benefits in the form of a plan that is arranged by professional financial planners, who can determine what risks are the most important to be prepared for. For example, even if they are young and healthy enough not to get sick, they will still opt into health insurance plans as safeguards against major accidents.…

When educational systems become businesses that are desperate for money, administrations resort to selling their students attention in return for excessive amounts of money and new appliances. This is a dangerous turn for schools because it transforms them from educators to greedy businessmen. Corporate sponsorships should not be involved with education systems because it casts hypocrisy on school administration, takes time away from learning, and institutes propaganda within the school. One way it casts hypocrisy is allowing businesses to advertise for things the school does not believe in. For example, in a school where students are taught not to drink soda and athletes are required to not drink soda, being funded by Pepsi is pretty ironic.…

Abstract Less than 2% of middle-class families use a financial aid service compared to 60% of lower-income households. Due to these statistics, this difference is a result of middle class’s belief that financial aid is not beneficial to the wealthy nor the middle-income families. Middle-class America is extremely hard working due to the fact they could work every single day of their life and not qualify for any financial aid towards a higher education, as opposed to a low-income house hold that has two adults who haven 't worked a day in their life who 's kids receive free college tuition based on low income. I recommend the Portman Hotel to make a radical surgery to its current HR policy to solve problems it faces. Although Portman’s strategy is innovative in a sense that it reinvented the concept of employee to deliver Asian standards of hospitality to the U.S, it caused hindrances to provide pleasant experience to customers. The major reason is that the current HR policy does not structured in the way to maximize utilization of motivations and skills of employees. To be specific, the top three problems of the Portman Hotel are lack of hierarchy, lack of specialization, and lack of systematic approach to the wage. In my point of view, a lack of hierarchy between PVs and other service groups made it difficult for the Portman Hotel to provide great experience to customers.…
