Some people, like my mother, are driven to accomplish their goals regardless of the obstacles they face along the way. For me, giving up is not an option because I strongly believe you can accomplish anything if you try hard enough. This is something I have learned from watching my mother throughout my life.

The struggle of trying to achieve my goal can be put in different situations. For example the playing the trombone. I was never good at the trombone from the beginning and certainly was never going to get any better if I did not practice. I though was just too hard and did not want to try, but seeing the other students being able to play it changed my mind. I pick the horn and practice every day until I got better.…

Anne Fadiman’s “Odd Shelf” is filled with books about polar explorations, both successful and non-successful, whose “subject matter is completely unrelated to the rest of the library.” To disperse the books throughout her larger collection, into the memoir section, or the science section, would be wrong. I have an “Odd Shelf” too. They are filled with books on topics that seem to have nothing to do with the rest of my collection. These books represent a lifelong interest of mine, and so they need to be together.…

I was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas; my environment shaped me to become someone responsible, an over achiever, and a determined young man. The people who had the biggest impact on me is the woman who gave me life, my father, and my community. My mother was already there for me even before I stared walking, she was there to comfort me when I fell on my knees. She was my first teacher, the one who taught me morals and set up my standards; whenever we had a family party and all of our thirty members were together, she will make me introduce and address myself to every single one and if ever forgot to say hi to someone she will just give me a look to make realize my mistake, and I will immediately go on to that person and say sorry for…

We heard a lot of times the word “Never give up.” It is quite a hackneyed saying. However, it means that it is as important as that. We have experienced big and small size of difficulties, for example, one of my difficulties was a relationship with my friends, and we will also face the hardships a lot of times in the future. I realized that if we gave up there would be nothing, but if we did not give up there would be a result anyway.…

I have always been someone to never give up. I believe a lot of it has to do with being in the military and the way I had to work growing up. I also did not let failure get the best of me. I have heard people say that insanity is trying the same thing over and over with the same results, but what if you try each attempt over and over using a different method each time? The most unsuccess I have ever felt was transferring from the military to civilian workplace.…

Growing up with a very predominant Vietnamese influence within my household impacted every aspect of my daily life, from how I was raised as a child to how I see the world currently.
