Throughout the story, Will starts to realize that sometimes giving up is okay. In the beginning of the story Will seems cocky. In the very beginning Will and Mike where in gym class and Will and Mike went up for the same rebound and Will accidentally elbowed Mike so then Mike started to elbow Will more and then is got all rough. This shows that Will is cocky and he wants to be tough, but he doesn’t know what he is in for. My second piece of evidence would have to be when Will and Kevin Cox where walking home and Will told Kevin that he would fight Mike anyday and anytime. This first piece of evidence why Will gives up is he only had 3 people on his side for the fight and he felt as if everyone hated him and that he was going to fail. Going on to the second piece of evidence, right before the fight when Will and Mike where being told the rules Will was trying to stall as long as he could so then he wouldn’t have to fight Mike. Finally, Will told Mike give when Will realized that all he would be giving Mike would be the phone calls, the popularity, the girls, and the fight, nothing else so Will gave and then he lost and Mike now had everything that Will had had before. Mike had said to Will, “Give?” Then Will thought, “Why not?
