Giving Birth To A Child

Decent Essays
Giving birth to a child is a great accomplishment and milestone. However, after the baby is born, parents adjust their lives to meet the needs of their child.

In order to adjust effectively within the postpartum period, I would join a group that consists of both new and experienced mothers, were we can share stories, discuss setbacks and achievemnets, along with share some of our goals and what we want for the future. Joining groups are a way to grow, learn, and interact with other people in your community.

Having a newborn baby can cause fear in new parents. One of the best ways to overcome this fear is to spend more time with your child. Learning more about them so that you can become comfortable being around them and caring for them.

The second priority intervention that I would have implemented is for the postpartum mom that I was assigned to. She had some concerns about having help caring for the baby once her husband returns to work because her family does not live in town. The intervention that I would implement is support system enhancement. One outcome that I would want for this patient would be to identify at least one source of help outside of her immediate family, such as a support group for new mothers, that she can turn to for advice on caring for her child by the time she is discharged. According to Cheng, Fowles, and Walker, talking in a support group can benefit child rearing skills and interpersonal relationships (2006).…

In many women the baby blues will continue on for months and even up-to a year following child birth. It is extremely important every woman understands and acknowledges that you are not alone nor is anything wrong with you as mother. While the American Psychiatric Association indicates 9-17% of women will suffer from PPD, it is important to realize these figures are seriously under-reported for women. Women often fear that acknowledging they have a problem will result in a child being removed from the home.…

The joys of a new baby are numerous for couples, it’s an addition to your family, a new person to love; but a new child also means new responsibilities, a new found source of stress and in some cases depression for the new moms. The depression is common for most women, and last for around two weeks, typically starting around the second, or third day after the birth of their baby. This is whats known as the “postpartum baby blues” but those that last longer and are more severe are what 's referred…
