Girls Like Us Book Report

I read the book “Girls Like Us” by Gail Giles. This book is about two special-education girls, Quincy and Biddy, who have just graduated high school and are now living together with an older lady. They are learning to live on their own with the guidance of Ms. Elizabeth. In return, they also help Ms. Elizabeth with her cooking, cleaning, and other jobs around the house. At the beginning of the novel, Quincy can not stand Biddy. Biddy is always in her own world and is a girly-girl. Later in the book, Quincy experiences a life-changing situation that Biddy also went through when she was younger. This brings them closer together and instead of doing life on their own, they work together to achieve the same goals. They learn that this world can be cruel and you have to have someone to support you through this life.

She is super sweet and compassionate and is really good at cleaning. She is a great friend and support system for Quincy as she goes through some tough times. Growing up, she lived with her grandma, who definitely was not the most encouraging person. She was rude to Biddy and told her she was stupid and worth nothing. However, Biddy manages to stay positive. To play her I have chosen Christina Schmidt. She is also very bubbly and determined.
Ms. Elizabeth is an elderly lady who is respected, inspirational, wise, and classy. She is very patient and caring with the two girls as they live in her house. She gives them wonderful advice and cultivates a relationship with both. She breaks down Quincy’s walls and gets her to talk when no one else could. To play her I have chosen Julie Andrews. Julie Andrews is an inspirational figure for many. Ms. Elizabeth inspired and encouraged Quincy and Biddy to live to their full potential and that they are more than two girls in a special-education
