Girls for Gender Equity Survey Research Project
The following report is a survey research analysis discussing Girls for Gender Equity’s survey research project.
Introduction
Girls for Gender Equity (GGE) is an organization that works toward promoting women’s rights and giving them the opportunity to live self-determined and self-sufficient lives. (Mission & Vision, 2014). Workshops and events are held by the organization to boost confidence and raise awareness of gender based problems. Currently, Girls for Gender Equity only has one location in Brooklyn, New York, however, they would …show more content…
The team promoted the data to obtain a population and at least 50 completed surveys. (See Appendix B). In order to recruit participants, the survey link was distributed through group chats containing sororities, friends and classmates. It was also posted on the “Quinnipiac University Class of 2019” Facebook page. (See Appendix A). These communication platforms are conveniently accessible to reach a large audience quickly. In the end, 103 students took the survey but only 55 completed it fully. (See Appendix B).
Sampling Characteristics
The survey was given out in hopes of getting a wide variety of answers from the participants, however, the data showed that out of the 55 completed surveys, 91% identified as being white, leaving only 9% as minorities. Also, 93% of participants identified as being women, and 95% of participants identified as being heterosexual leaving little room for diversity (See Appendix B).

Instant.ly created an excel sheet that included the raw data of the survey. The data included blank spaces where questions were not answered, along with numbers that correspond with the answers the participants have given. The excel sheet contained qualitative and quantitative data however quantitative data needed advanced cleaning and organization. Therefore, the quantitative data was transferred over to a program called SPSS through Citrix. As the data was copied from Excel to SPSS, variables were created that went along with the question’s main idea. After the variable was created, numbers were copied in the same order over to SPSS in order to clean the data. The select-all questions required a different kind of sorting because each possible answer needed its own variable row. After each variable was separated, the results were distributed into two different columns. One column included all the positive data labeled as a number 1, and the other column included variables that were negative which were labeled as a number 2. All the blank spaces were answers that were not chosen, therefore, SPSS settings were used and filled the spots with the number “2” . To prevent any inaccurate data, any rows that had blanks were cleared. The end result was a SPSS file that contained a variable on the y-axis of the document and the row number on the x-
