Girl State is important me because it was a completely new and different experience. I always want to join and participate in almost everything because it could be a new or different experience that I would enjoy. Girl State was different, because only one girl can represent her school. So when I was chosen, I was ecstatic. After writing an essay, being interviewed by a panel of three women from the axillary unit, and competing against three other girls, I was the one that was chosen. And it was a culture shock, because some things I was familiar with were practically rare to them. For example many didn't know what Enchiladas were and since I'm Latina, it amazed me because where I come from that's a common Mexican cuisine. In addition,we all had many different views on relevant issues like immigration, gun control,etc. I met a girl who knew how to hunt so that brought an interesting perspective on the issue of gun control. Because in Santa Ana it's rare to find someone who can hunt because it's an urban area. So it's difficult to get their perspective about the gun control issue.
